SRT vs VTT — which do I need?
.srt (SubRip) is the most widely supported subtitle format. Use it for video editors (Premiere, DaVinci, CapCut), desktop players (VLC), and most social platforms that accept an uploaded caption file.
.vtt (WebVTT) is the format for web video — the HTML <track> element and players like Video.js. Pick VTT when captions play in a browser.
Both are plain-text sidecar files with the same timings, so you can export whichever your tool expects and switch later.
